Patrick Kindlon media roundup 2.17.14
Out of the Furnace - Watched it again because it rules. It rules the second time too. The way the Christian Bale character processes the loss of his relationship is something you never see in films, but you hope to see in men. I loved this movie.
Klute - My mother remembers this as a Jane Fonda vehicle, but the star for me is Donald Sutherland. Donald has been an ‘old dude’ for my entire adult life, so it’s a trip seeing him in a major role as a younger man. Also, this is a character I don’t think audiences would want to see in 2014, but his performance is proof you can make anything work with the right actor. This movie was pretty raw for 1971. Feeling that.
Bullit - Many people consider this a classic, but my guess is all they can remember is the car chase. It’s a good cop movie, but not a great one. Great car chase though.
Sun Kil Moon — Benji -Really a challenge to every other lyricist out there. Not as good musically as Among the Leaves but certainly has a song or two that’ll put you on your ass with the lyrics. Few men can make it through the song about his mother without feeling something strong.
Lone Wolf & Cub - Omnibus 2
True Detective: Episode 5
Seeing one of my favourite bands post about my favourite musican is great. Everyone needs to hear Benji.
